My Approach

Every person is on a unique journey in life, so your counseling experience will be unique to you. I use an integrative, culturally-sensitive approach, pulling from different counseling techniques and theories to help you feel comfortable and to meet your needs and goals. As a person-centered therapist, I believe you have a primary role in your own healing process. We will work together to make the best counseling plan for you!

I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, talk therapy, unconditional positive regard, and empathy to help you find your own path to healing. I am EMDR trained and working towards certification from the EMDR International Association. EMDR is an effective, evidence-based modality proven to help people heal from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, and depression. I also tend to use techniques from dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, ego states therapy, interpersonal therapy, and others. I use a positive approach to incorporate your strengths and struggles to work towards the changes that you want in your life.

Many of us wait to seek help, struggling through life while we convince ourselves that we’re better off faking it and trying to make it alone. Seeking the support of counseling is a strength! You can learn new strategies to live your best life and process your thoughts and feelings to heal from the past. You owe it to yourself!

My History

I grew up in an Army town and studied German literature and psychology as an undergrad at UNC-Chapel Hill. While teaching for two years in my hometown, I realized that I really loved talking to my students to make sure that their needs were met so that they were ready to learn. I went back to Chapel Hill to earn my Master’s degree in counseling from a top CACREP-accredited program, graduating in 2011. My ultimate goal was always private practice, but as a military and medical spouse, frequent moves influenced my career path. I worked as a school counselor during graduate school and upon graduation, and then as a career counselor for Soldiers transitioning from the Army to civilian life. In my own transition to motherhood, I experienced perinatal anxiety and depression, infertility, and loss. I have specialized training in perinatal mental health and child and adolescent therapy. My goal is to understand your experiences and needs through a trauma-sensitive lens. My passion is to serve women and birthing parents experiencing perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, including infertility and loss, and young adults with difficult family relationships and life transitions.

I am a parent of young children and understand the dynamics of parenthood and a busy family life. By offering counseling via HIPAA-compliant videoconferencing, my goal is to make help more accessible to you!
